The DAV Movement, founded in 1886 by Lala Lajpat Rai, gained momentum through the tireless efforts of Mahatma Hans Raj, Pandit Gurudatt Vidhyarthi, and other dedicated Arya Samaj activists. The first D.A.V. School was established at Lahore on 1st June 1886 in memory of Swami Dayanand Saraswati — a visionary, reformer, and educationist.

Today, DAV Organization is the largest non-government educational network in India, managing 700+ institutions that blend Vedic values with modern educational methods.

Mahatma Hans Raj

Mahatma Hans Raj dedicated his life to education, reform, and service. He founded the DAV High School, Lahore on 1 June 1886 and led the DAV College Managing Committee with vision and courage.

He worked tirelessly for disaster relief, promoted Hindi as the mother tongue, and spread Vedic Dharma worldwide.

“Victories are gained, peace is preserved, progress is achieved, civilization is built up and history is made... in educational institutions which are the seed-beds of culture, where children, in whose hands alter the destiny of the future, are trained.”

Mahatma Hans Raj passed away on 15 November 1938, leaving behind an enduring legacy of morality, humanity, and dedication to education.
